Western Pond Turtle Research
This is part of our ongoing research on Western Pond Turtles (Emys/Clemmys/Actinemys marmorata) here in Central Cali. The goals of the pilot year are to document nesting and overwintering in an insular population whose habitat dries out almost every year. We are also looking at the effect on these guys of the removal of a key predator, bullfrogs.

I luuuuuv Mercury, perfect choice for musical background. I cant believe bullfrogs pulled off young so quick. And did you get your scratches from the new method you were telling me about with bait or is that turtle claw marks.
I was looking at basking traps, different designs that should keep turtles from climbing out but without the scary pointy nail design. The trap people say to leave a turtle in the trap to entice others of their species. Still trying to figure out best way to catch my creek turtles.
